National Chemistry Week at BYU

Each year the BYU Chemistry department puts on some amazing chemistry “magic” shows in celebration of National Chemistry week.  The tickets are available now and will probably go quickly!  I hope you are able to take your family and enjoy an evening of science together!

National Chemistry Week will take place the week of Oct. 21-27 on the campus of Brigham Young University. The activities and programs are sponsored by the Central Utah Section of the American Chemical Society. Activities include chemical magic shows, a symposium hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, a research poster session and reception. National Chemistry Week is celebrated annually during the third full week of October (Sunday through Saturday) by ACS local sections. It is designed to enhance the public’s awareness of the contributions that chemistry makes to society and to our everyday lives. This year’s theme is “Nanotechnology: The Smallest BIG Idea in Science.”

The Chemical Magic Shows include demonstrations that illustrate important principles of chemistry. These shows are entertaining and tickets go fast. Reservations online and by telephone will be available beginning October 1st.

Details on the 2012 Chemistry Symposium to be announced.

The Research Poster Session is a great chance to learn more about the current research that is being done by the Central Utah ACS section. Details on this year’s session and reception to be announced.
