LESSON

Attention Activity
Review atmosphere flashcards 32-42 and their definitions by reading the term and definition and having the children repeat after you.

To begin our lesson today I want you to each think back over the last 24 hours and tell me all the ways you have used water.  Write their answers on the board. (Examples: to drink, to bathe, to cook the oatmeal, to clean the dishes, to run the dishwasher, to run the washing machine, to brush my teeth, to take my vitamins and medicine, to water the lawn, to water the flowers, to swim, to ski, to flush the toilet, to run the disposal, to put in my contact lenses.)

Let’s look at each of these now and ask what the consequences of not having water would be. (Examples: thirst, dirty bodies, dirty house, dirty clothes, dirty teeth, have to chew medicine and vitamins, dead lawn, dead flowers, dead garden, no way to cool off on a hot day, no fun in the snow, a very stinky toilet, not able to wear contact lenses.)  We are going to look at this list again later so don’t erase it.

On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most important and 1 being the least important, how important is water to us each day? (10)

In the Noah Webster 1828 Dictionary, it defines water as: “A fluid, the most abundant and most necessary for living beings of any in nature, except air.”

We have been learning about our air or our atmosphere. Today we are going to begin our study of the hydrosphere.  Write this word on the board. The word “hydrosphere” can be divided into two small parts: hydro,  underline “hydro”, meaning water and sphere,  underline “sphere”, refers to the planet on which we live.

So the study of hydrosphere is the study of the water on our planet. Before we talk  about the hydrosphere today we are going to talk about another kind of water that is very important.

Principle 1: The Lord has blessed us with living water which nourishes and cleanses our spiritual bodies, is critical to life, and is stored in many forms within the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
