Constitution Day Online Game

Constitution Day is September 17, the day in 1787 when our U.S. government was born. Meet your Constitution Day education requirement with this free and engaging lesson plan. This lesson plan shows how the U.S. Constitution sets up our government. Students will learn how Articles I-III describe the structure, function and powers of the three branches of government. Readings and activities will guide students through the articles, as well as the concepts of separation of powers and checks and balances.

If you were not able to come to our Constitution day  activities here at American Heritage School you can still have a  fun experience with engaging, and easy-to-use games and lesson plans from iCivics: Have your kids play this fun free online game called DO I HAVE A RIGHT?

Students will run their own law firm and help clients resolve funny yet thought-provoking issues. They’ll learn about the Bill of Rights and other amendments to the Constitution. Clients bring various complaints, and students must
identify if they “have a right.” As students successfully resolve cases by matching them with the correct attorneys, their law firm grows along with the skills of their lawyers.Check out our Game Guide for Teachers to learn how to use this game in your classroom.

GAME OBJECTIVE:
– Government/Civics: Given a description of a legal dispute, identify whether a constitutional right
is being violated
– Government/Civics: Match a given legal right to the constitutional amendment that protects it
– 21st Century Skills: Plan strategically and sequence tasks efficiently

PREREQUISITES:
None—students will learn the material just by learning to play the game successfully. That said, students will
get more out of it the game if they already have some background knowledge of constitutional rights. We
suggest teaching the iCivics lesson “You Mean I’ve Got Rights?” the day before your class plays the game.
You can find that and all of our lesson plans at www.iCivics.org/teachers.

If you would like to cover this important event in more depth use this free Constitution Day lesson plan. It provides a great overview of the Constitution and how Articles I-III describe the structure, function and powers of our three branches of government.
